Alexandra Leatu was named head women’s tennis coach for the Royals in Summer 2022 following coaching stops at Weatherford College and Georgia State University.
In her first season with the Royals, Leatu led the program to a 5-18 overall record with their first Division 1 victory over Johnson C. Smith. In the classroom, the Royals posted a 3.58 team GPA as four Royals, including Grace Tomegah, Amelie Allard, Hanna Axelsson, and Kelsey Sinclaire were named CSC Academic All-District. Additionally, Hanna Axelsson was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team.
Leatu spent the 2022 season building the brand-new women’s tennis program at Weatherford College, recruiting a roster of eight for the fall after just being hired in May. The first-year program achieved a national ranking of No. 7 with three players ranking individually in singles at 7, 25, and 28.
Prior to coaching and teaching at Weatherford, Leatu served as the head women’s tennis coach at Georgia State University for three seasons making a Sun Belt Tournament appearance in 2019. As an assistant, Leatu helped the Panthers win a Sun Belt Conference Championship. The program also earned Georgia State’s and the Sun Belt’s Highest GPA Award with her on staff.
Leatu began her collegiate playing career at Vanderbilt University, earning Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Tournament Team honors. She played number one singles and number one doubles as a freshman and was ranked in the top 75 by the ITA. Following that season, she transferred to Baylor University where she was a three-time Big 12 Conference champion helping the Bears reach a top-15 national rating during her stint. Following her collegiate career, Leatu entered the coaching world as the head women’s tennis coach at the University of New Haven.
Prior to college, Leatu won three national titles in singles and in doubles, two silver balls in USTA doubles play, and a bronze ball in USTA singles. She also won two ITF Grade 3 tournaments.
Leatu holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, and new media from Baylor and a master’s degree in communication from Georgia State.
